Just today, I thought it would be fun to do live performances in unusual places that challenge conventional norms and bring music closer to unexpected audiences. Here in Tampa, there is an intriguing office building that’s about 10 stories high, which could serve as a unique venue. Through the center of the building is an expansive opening that connects the lively lobby to the 10th floor, creating a visually striking space perfect for performance. Each floor features a circular walkway that provides an overlook to the buzzing lobby below, making it an ideal setting for engaging an audience. I would love to set up on the 10th floor (with permission, of course) and do a set during the lunch hour when foot traffic is at its peak, allowing me to capture the attention of busy professionals and create a vibrant atmosphere. Additionally, I would also like to do a performance at the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, a venue renowned for its inspiring art and creative energy. I believe my jazz arrangements of popular hit songs might resonate well there, especially as they meld classic melodies with fresh interpretations. Furthermore, I envision doing a special set in an elementary school, where I could hand out rhythm shakers and invite the kids to take part in the musical experience. My song, Chocolate Cake, would be my choice for this interactive performance, where kids could express their creativity. The actual cover is Rick James’ Give It to Me Baby, but I’ve adapted it, so in this case, it’s “gimme me chocolate cake.” I realize this might have a moderate risk factor, but the joy and enthusiasm of children would surely make it worthwhile. In the Tampa area, I’m often booked to sing the National Anthem at various events. I’ve proudly sung at several games for the New York Yankees organization, along with an annual US Navy ceremony and a special segment aired on Fox News 13. I love these appearances as I relish the opportunity to promote the symbol of our nation and inspire patriotism through music. However, I must admit, it would be quite tough to sing several versions of The National Anthem in a wine studio or at a hot pepper festival, where the atmosphere calls for more upbeat and lively tunes rather than solemn anthems.
What Would I Like to Try?
